Are single braids a good transitioning hair style?

I am african american and i want to stop perming my hair, would it be a good idea to have single braids in while i am transitioning from relaxed to natural? If I do, will it stop breakage from occurring?Are single braids a good transitioning hair style?
yeah get those braids i got the kinky twist for now, o and keep your ends clips.
