Pinups were actually more so of the 40's and 50's, than the 1960's.

Hair was a big deal and had a very unique look, so you'll have to learn how to do your hair (or have it done) right by going to this website:

http://www.nocturne.com/swing/hair/hair.鈥?/a>

They have step by step instructions and photos on how to style your hair.

The first thing you have to do is determine if you can do the style that you want . Hair was cut to the same length everywhere on the head (so i you have too short of hair, or bangs, you won't be able to do these hair styles). Long hair is ok, and actually a good thing because it let's you do more with your hair.

To prep your hair, you'll need to curl it (don't use a curling iron). You'll want to use ';Setting Lotion'; when you curl your hair with sponge curlers or pin curls to get your curls to be uniform (let set until dry, or sleep in your curlers). When you curl your hair, you'll also want to do it in layers as indicated on the website (think rows of where you want to put rolls). You'll want a row of curls (curling the hair back) that follows your face around the top and sides.

When styling your hair, don't get frustrated if it takes a while. You will need a lot of hair spray and bobby pins. Even using this, your hair may not do what you want it to do, because it takes a while to train your hair to style the way you want it to.

You'll probably want some waves or curls on the front top and sides, then put the rest of your hair in a hair net or snood (you'll want to brush it out big after you curle it so that it fills the hair net uniformly).

Practice, practice, practice! As you style your hair like this more often, it becomes easier, and your hair easier to manage. I have a friend who does WWII reinacting and she can put her hair in pin curls while driving to work!

Assecories:

Red Lipstick (I prefer Revlon Color Stay)

Dark Eye Liner

Light Eye Shadow (go for natural, no blue or green).

Flowers in Your Hair (buy fake ones from a craft store)

Fan

Parasol

Appropriate Healed Shoes or Wedges

Posture %26amp; Body Type:

This is probably the most important to consider when posing for pictures. Remember to arch your back when posing, and don't always go for a smile. You should do thinks like say things like ';oooh, oooo, and aaaah'; to give your mouth more of the coy pinup look.

Hi Chantel,

Are you asking for help finding the kind of hair styles popular in the 50-60's?

*IF that is what you are asking then here's my best answer:

Hit the library (it's free). Ask for help finding books with photos, from that era. There are tons of different kinds....like for instance bio's of movie stars from that period. (Like Liz Taylor, Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe etc.) MOST of the styles you can figure out how to do by just looking at them for awhile. Doing something like a ';beehive'; is a project!!! (I hope that's not one of the ones you want to try!)

*Remember not all the styles were with long hair, so the idea of ';pinning up'; a hair do should probably include the 1930-40's. (Like Betty Grable, Jean Harlow, Carol Lombard, etc.)

* Another way is to hunt thru Thrift stores and Used Bookstores for the magazines (%26amp; Books) from that time period. (Doesn't Canada have: Goodwill, Salvation Army + look in yellow pages for other listings for thrift %26amp; bookstores.) You'll have to be willing to search piles of ';stuff'; to find the things you want.

* It's probably impossible for your to follow these directions, but what the heck....I'll give it a try:

If you have long hair only..... (If you have bangs it's okay, just leave them - can't hang into your eyes - got to be above the eyebrows!)

BRUSH your hair back as if you were going to put it in a LOW ponytail. Hold it tight in your hand and TWIST and PULL it towards the top of your head. You should end up with what will look like the start of a ';French Twist';. DON'T LET GO of your hair. Take a rubber band and put it around the top part of the ';ponytail'; (there should be a long part/section of the ponytail left in your hand with the small amount you've twisted at the bottom!)

So far you've brushed you hair back, pulled and twisted the lower part of the ponytail CLOSEST to your head into a small and close to your head French Twist. You've then taken the remaining LOOSE section of ponytail and put a rubber band around it. (It will stick up a little bit as it will end up being a ';high'; ponytail.) NOTE: AFTER you've secured the upper ponytail you will need to use bobby or hair pins to secure the small French twist in place....so it will STAY close to your head in the FRENCH TWIST.

NOW, smooth the loose hair of the pony tail with a brush or comb. Turn the ends under. It will start to look like a large/loose HALF BUN. NOTE: IF you have bangs it will ';kind of'; look like a second ';row'; of bangs curled or turned under. Now FAN it out across the top of your head [almost to the part of your bangs if you have them OR to about 3'; back from your hairline]. (Don't fan the hair too much - you don't want it to look like a fat pancake!) Use bobby pins or hair pins to hold it in place.

*The hair accessory for this hairdo = usually a bow at the back where the rubber band showed.

*THAT'S IT. You've got one of the ';cool'; up hairdo's from the 60's!!!

RE: ACCESSORIES.

* Wide headbands, barrettes, fancy %26amp; jeweled bobby pins, bows and square scarves. Dollar stores have tons of usable hair accessories. Check out second hand and thrift stores for the real OLD stuff from that time period. It's still out there!

Hope some of these helped you.

It sounds like you will have a fun adventure!!! Wishing you MUCH success!!!
